Diversity, Equity, and InclusionThe summer of 2020 showed the entire country just how far we have to go to make sure every resident, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, or gender safe in this country. I have been the leader on the Dublin Council on this issue. From pushing back on hate rhetoric during the debate of hanging the LGBTQ Pride Flag in 2019, to adding equity and inclusiveness values statements, to rewording our mission statement, I have been the Councilmember who spoke out. In 2020 when we residents asked us to form a task force to look at Policing, I asked my colleagues to expand the mission of this task force so that we could examine everything the city does (hiring policies, rec. guide offerings, social media communications, etc.) to ensure we are being equitable an inclusive. This issue is so important to me that applied for and was appointed to the National League of Cities Race, Equity, and Leadership Council so that I can continue to learn from Mayors and Councilmembers nationwide who are doing work on this issue. I will strive to continue to make Dublin an inclusive place, where everyone has a seat at the table and where hate and oppression have no foothold.
